Simile

Words like seeds come to us with all the appearance of natural objects yet as with each successive generation of the plant each use of the word produces a new and subtly different word in place of the one we’ve started with a process of millennia.

Whetstone

If the art is a vessel by which to sharpen our minds or in other words to help us to think more interesting thoughts then it’s a mistake to act as if it has to assert anything rather it provides the whetstone against which an audience can hone their analysis and what is the content of a whetstone is a useless question not contents but qualities being the metric by which we measure the whetstone what is the grit and what is the preferred grit for the task at hand how fine a point shall we put on it and remember finer isn’t always better a rough stone sharpens more knives faster.
